Lady Gaga Delivers Surreal Comedy Theatrical : Lady Gaga has always embraced the strange and wonderful, and she appeared as both host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live. Performing songs from her new album Mayhem, she wowed the audience with her over-the-top costumes, bold choreography, and undeniable stage presence.

For both of her musical performances, Gaga leaned into the dramatic. During the dark pop-dance track Abracadabra, she dominated the stage like a high priestess of terror, surrounded by stone-faced dancers. Wearing a bright red full-body jumpsuit and brandishing a cane, she crouched menacingly between sharp, forceful dance moves. Later, for Killa, she transformed into a different visual style, wearing a huge purple suit with exaggerated shoulders. In a style that mimicked David Byrne and Prince, Gaga sped through the studio hallway, sometimes falling to the floor in a theatrical frenzy.

Beyond music, Gaga’s absurdist talents carried over into the night’s comedy sketches. The sketches she participated in were surreal, hilarious, and made the most of her extraordinary energy.

One standout sketch, A Long Goodbye, began with a seemingly sentimental staging. Gaga, dressed in a demure polka-dot dress with bangs reminiscent of Zooey Deschanel, plays a woman saying goodbye to her boyfriend (Marcello Hernandez) as he leaves to study cooking in Paris. When she grabs a real black pug, Hernandez refuses to go with her, claiming it would be a restraint.

However, the emotional farewell quickly turns strange. Gaga’s character rides to the airport in a “ride suitcase” that resembles a scooter instead of a taxi. The scene intensifies when she encounters a gang of bikers riding these impossible contraptions on the road. The sketch’s humor relies on the absurdity of its slow-moving vehicles, constantly interrupting moments of dramatic longing with cries of “Get out of the way!” to frustrated drivers. Eventually, Hernandez’s character chases her in his own motorized suitcase, only to run out of battery. The moment is hilarious when it’s revealed that his dog also followed him in his own little motorized suitcase.

With her trademark combination of theatricality and self-conscious humor, Lady Gaga transformed the night into a dazzling and delightfully bizarre spectacle, proving once again why she remains one of the most fearless performers in entertainment.
